Copa America Centenario is underway in the United States. With nations from North America, Central America, and South America, it is filled with talent. It's a scout's dream.
Talented Central and South Americans, you say? That is right in FC Dallas's wheelhouse. FCD Technical Director Fernando Clavijo, as well as others on the staff, will be watching this tournament intently.
Let's take a look at five forwards FCD fans, and Clavijo, should watch during Copa 2016.
Nicolas Castillo (Chile) - This could be the ideal signing for Clavijo and FCD. The striker from Chile is only 23-years-old and has a ton of potential. He joined Club Brugge (Belgium) in 2014 and has made 30 appearances for the club. But, Castillo has been loaned out three times. He's currently on loan in Chile where he has scored 11 goals in 11 games. Young player with something to prove. This is the type of forward FCD and its fans should want. However, Dallas might have to splash a little cash if they want him permanently, and not just on loan.
Dayro Moreno (Colombia) - Was there any doubt at all I was going to include a Colombian on this list? The 30-year-old has been capped 30 times by Colombia. Moreno plays forward and could be a better option than Maxi Urruti and Tesho Akindele up top. He joined Tijuana in 2011, but has been loaned several times. However, Tijuana listed their ENTIRE TEAM on the transfer list. So, maybe Dallas could get Moreno on the cheap.
Christian Santos (Venezuela) - The 28-year-old striker currently plays in the Netherlands for N.E.C. where he's scored 39 goals in 64 appearances since joining in 2014. Pretty good numbers if you ask me. Evidently, his contract expired at the end of this season in the Dutch league. Clavijo might look very hard at having a go at the Venezuelan.
Ismael Diaz (Panama) - Only 19-years-old, but Diaz has plenty of talent. Diaz was a stud for Panama's youth squads and he's starting to transition into a full-time senior player. He currently plays for Porto B (FC Porto's reserve side) in Portugal. Primarily a left winger, but sometimes features up top. I'm throwing his name in the ring in case FCD decides to sell Fabian Castillo and needs a replacement.
Marlos Moreno (Colombia) - Moreno is another Castillo replacement guy. He's basically Castillo 2.0 except bigger. Moreno plays on either wing at Atletico Nacional, is quick, and has already been capped twice by Colombia. At only 19-years-old, evidently he's better than Castillo, or you'd think Jose Pekerman would've chose Castillo over him for this tournament (despite Fabi's bad run of form lately).
Basically, this tournament is riddled with talent and FCD needs to take advantage of that. We will be watching for other players we don't even know about yet, and you should too. If someone catches your eye, feel free to name them (forward or not) in the comments.
