General thoughts on the game…

Colorado found a goal early, but we were able to keep our composure and control the game in the second half. The second half was very good. We came back with more rhythm and intensity. We created a lot of chances, just getting in behind with the speed that we have with our wingers. I am very pleased with the team today… the players who stepped in and helped us to get these points. We have a deep team and everyone played with a lot of rhythm.

On the goals by Mauro Diaz and Maxi Urruti…

I thought our goals required a bit of creativity, I thought. Maybe the final pass could be seen in a different way, but the creativity was very good. I have to give credit to the guys who scored tonight when we needed them to step up… especially Maxi [Urruti], who came away with the winner. It’s important for him and the team to have your number nine present and scoring goals.

On sending in Maxi Urruti late to help get the result…

I was happy with the energy that everyone put into this match tonight. [Carlos] Lizarazo, [Juan Esteban] Ortiz, [Agustin] Jara and Tesho [Akindele]… everyone worked hard and they created the space for the others who came on in the second half. All of them did a great job tonight. When your number nine scores goals, you sleep easy. It’s better. It is the guy who solves your problems in the final third. Maxi’s presence today gave us that final push. Good for him and I hope to now see many more.

On the team’s effort tonight…

I have a group of players who do not want to give up in any tournament. We have a lot of travel and competitions but the boys are committed to fight every single game like it’s the last one. The road is not going to be easy. Playing 120-plus minutes tonight is proof to everyone that we have to be ready.

On the substitutes’ play coming off the bench…

Our substitutes coming in made a huge difference for us. [Michael] Barrios, Maxi [Urruti] and Victor [Ulloa]… They added the energy we lacked in the first half.

On playing another 120 minute match in this round of the Open Cup…

It was tough, but the guys battled well for the 120 minutes. No one said it was going to be easy. Despite giving up that goal, we continued with our plan and continued pushing. We take everything game-by-game. Last week was a tough match against RSL. We focused on this game tonight against Colorado, but now it’s behind us. We have to turn our focus to Orlando.

On his assist to Mauro Diaz…

I noticed that one of the defenders was trying to slip in behind the other one… When they bumped into each other I just tried to pass it as far along as I could. I saw Mauro [Diaz] running and hustling to get to the back post and the only logical thing was to pass the ball to him and let him score the goal.

On the importance of the U.S. Open Cup to him…

It was a great game, I am very happy we were able to advance to the next round. I am very happy about it. We have worked hard all year to make our mark in the tournament. It means a lot to us because our owner’s name is associated with the tournament. Tonight, we were able to beat a very strong team. Now, we have another hard game ahead of us on Monday.
