FC Dallas certainly likes playing at Toyota Stadium as they picked up another win on Saturday night, a 2-0 decision over Real Salt Lake.
The attack was flowing nicely for Dallas as they got a first half goal from Kellyn Acosta and then an insurance goal in the second half from Fabian Castillo.
FCD had the first real opportunity of the game in the 10th minute on a counter attack play lead by Mauro Diaz. The young Argentine drove the ball up the field and found an open Michael Barrios on the right wing. Barrios got into the penalty box but his shot would go well over the bar.
FCD got on the board first in the 18th minute on a goal from Acosta. Diaz began the play on a quick restart around midfield as he found Barrios behind the RSL defense. Barrios then passed the ball off to Acosta for the easy tap in.
RSL’s best chance in the first half came from Omar Holness in the 43rd minute. The RSL rookie got the ball in the middle of the pitch with no one on him. He took a couple dribbles before rifling off a shot that just barely missed out on the upper corner of the goal.
FCD doubled their lead in the 58th minute on a wonderful sequence all started with a header at midfield by Carlos Gruezo. The Ecuadorian midfielder’s header played Diaz, who then did a nifty bicycle kick to break Castillo open on the left wing. Castillo then beat his defender before ripping a shot to the far post.
Castillo nearly had a second goal in the 73rd minute. Diaz and Acosta once again were the catalyst in the midfield to set up Castillo who got free into the penalty box but his shot on goal wasn’t strong enough to beat RSL keeper Jeff Attinella.
FC Dallas returns to action next week as they host the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night in the Round of 16 in the 2016 US Open Cup. Their next league match will be on July 4 when they host Orlando City.
