Behind Enemy Lines: Scouting Real Salt Lake

Here are three keys to getting all three points tonight.

MLS: New York Red Bulls at Real Salt Lake Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas come home after having three points stolen from them by referees, meanwhile, Real Salt Lake come off a 2-1 win against NYRB.

Attacking Quality

Real Salt Lake have scored 2+ goals in every game they have played since May 15th. FC Dallas will be intent on trying to slow down the likes of “Burrito” Martinez and Yuri Movsisyan, who find themselves in fine form heading into this match. RSL are incredibly dangerous lately and FC Dallas will need to be smart defensively if they are to break RSL’s scoring streak.

Potential Lineup

Emery Welshman and Sunday Stephen are unavailable due to injury.

GK: Nick Rimando; LB: Tony Beltran; CB: Justen Glad, Aaron Maund; RB: Demar Phillips; CM: Sunny, Javier Morales, Luke Mulholland; RW: Juan Manuel Martinez; LW: Joao Plata; FW: Yuri Movsisyan.

Key Matchup

Matt Hedges vs Juan Manuel Martinez. FC Dallas has not always had the best track record defensively this season. Matt Hedges will need to be on his game if he is to stop Martinez who is in the form of his life, and he will need to guide the defense against threats like Joao Plata and Yuri Movsisyan. FC Dallas can’t afford any mistakes at the back this week, or they will be punished.

Keys to Three Points

Being More Clinical.

There were a lot of reasons for that loss last week, most of them being Jorge Gonzalez, but the one thing that Dallas needs to fix is its shooting. Dallas hit the frame of the goal twice last week, and were not convincing in front of the goal. If they can begin putting away the numerous chances they receive than Dallas may be able to outscore red hot RSL.

Playoff Preview.

This game is crucial, not only for the Supporter’s Shield, but as a preview of what Dallas can expect in the play-offs this year. Both sides will be testing themselves against future play-off opposition. Expect a cagey game in the first half as both teams settle into the game.

Bouncing Back.

PRO robbed FC Dallas last week, but that is done and dusted. Dallas need to overcome that hurdle, and not let it affect their confidence going forward. The season is still long and it is still all to play for. Dallas need to focus one game at a time and overcome this matchup, without worrying about the consequences.

Dallas settle themselves down and manage to slow the lethal attack of RSL..

My Prediction: FC Dallas 2-0.
