It is funny how quickly things can spin out of control in Major League Soccer. Over the weekend in a game between the Columbus Crew and the Montreal Impact, things spun out of control quickly for the Crew despite being up 3-1. A penalty kick was called for the Crew and while it did put them up 4-1, it set off a clash between their big two stars in Federico Higuain and Kei Kamara.
Kamara wanted the penalty to complete his first career hat trick, Higuain felt differently and scored the penalty. After that the Crew crumbled until they tied the Impact 4-4. Following the game Kamara had some pretty choice words about the penalty kick situation. Now according to SI's Grant Wahl, he is on the trading block.
Hearing Columbus is trying to trade Kei Kamara pre-deadline, but it's hard to move DPs since so many teams have the maximum 3 DPs already.— Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl) May 10, 2016
Kamara is also now suspended for the Crew's next game against lead-leading Colorado.
But the real point of contention here what would you give to get Kamara here in Dallas. His Designated Player tag does cause a lot of issues given that FCD already has three DPs on the books (Mauro Diaz, Fabian Castillo, and Carlos Gruezo). So either you pay down Kamara's salary with Targeted Allocation Money, or pay one of the other three down with that.
More than likely a deal would cost pretty heavily to get one of the league's best scorers here. We're talking some TAM, GAM (general allocation), draft picks and maybe a player like Tesho Akindele. I still say add in some Tex-Mex and BBQ ot sweeten the deal, but that may just be me.
Would you go after Kamara? If so, what do you think would be the best offer FCD could front?
Whatever may be the case, it will have to happen fast as the primary transfer window closes tomorrow.
