March Outlook: Can FC Dallas start off hot again?

FC Dallas has done well early on in previous season but can that trend continue in 2016?

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

A new season is finally here as FC Dallas looks to remain one of the top dogs in the Western Conference and in Major League Soccer. They begin with a fairly good slate of games with half being at home and half being on the road in the month of March. Three of the four games are against Eastern Conference foes with one rivalry game mixed in the bunch.

Philadelphia Union - home - March 6 (2:00 pm)

It all begins this Sunday with the Union. We'll have plenty on this game between today and kickoff. I won't go too deep into this game here but anything short of three points will be a disappointment for sure. The Union have yet to defeat FCD since joining MLS.

Houston Dynamo - away - March 12 (7:30 pm)

Our first big game may actually be in week two as the club travels south to take on Texas Derby rivals Houston. The Dynamo have made a slew of changes this offseason by adding in a couple Homegrown players, making some trades from within the league and adding in a couple transfers. The big question will be whether or not they can slow down the speed on the wings or if it will be more of the same from the last couple of years.

Montreal Impact - home - March 19 (7:30 pm)

The Impact have been a fairly interesting bunch to watch this offseason as they haven't made a ton of moves both in and out. They're going to have Didier Drogba back for another year after some fun mess with Chelsea over the winter. The additions of Harry Shipp and Lucas Ontivero are very intriguing as both will add some quality to their already good attack. This won't be an easy out early on at home.

D.C. United - away - March 26 (4:30 pm)

Going to RFK Stadium over the last decade or so hasn't been too kind to FCD. Either the game is close in a loss or it becomes a total blowout with red cards like our last trip there (not to mention that is where Mauro Diaz got hurt back in 2014). United have some talent returning to go with some interesting additions like Luciano Acosta. They didn't look all that great in the Champions League but they're always a tough out on the road.

Getting off to a hot start is always key for this club. There are 12 total points available and I would think a minimum of six is expected. Personally I think anything less than 10 points would be a disappointment to end the month with. FCD has owned Houston lately, never lost to Philly and have always done well at home against the Impact. Even if the month ends with eight points I may be okay with that.

What do you think is a fair start to the season here? Six points? 10? All 12?
