The depth of FC Dallas is about to get seriously tested this weekend as they head to Washington, D.C., as seven players have been called into international duty.
FC Dallas' Kellyn Acosta (U.S U-23 Olympic Team), Walker Zimmerman (U.S U-23 Olympic Team), Moises Hernandez (Guatemala), Jesse Gonzalez (Mexico U-23 Olympic Team), Tesho Akindele (Canada), Atiba Harris (St. Kitts) and Maynor Figueroa (Honduras) have been called in to represent their nations during the FIFA international window running today through Tuesday, March 29.
Acosta and Zimmerman will be hoping to guide the US team into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio during the two-legged series with Colombia. Gonzalez and Mexico have already earned their spot in the Olympics and will be playing a tune-up games in Europe against Japan and Portugal.
In World Cup qualifying, Hernandez joins Guatemala as they will battle the United States in a pair of qualifying matches. Akindele will be with Canada as they battle Mexico in a home and away series. Figueroa with be with the Honduran national team as they face El Salvador in a home and away set of qualifiers.
Lastly is Harris, who will be with St. Ktts and Nevis for a pair of Caribbean Cup matches.
And the fun of replacing them on Saturday....
Have fun figuring out FCD's lineup selection for this weekend. It is sure to be a doozy. Does Oscar Pareja trot out of 3-5-2 against United with Ryan Hollingshead, Zach Loyd and Matt Hedges in the back? Or does rookie Homegrown defender Aaron Guillen get a big time start in the center of the defense with Hedges?
My gut tells me Pareja gets creative here and we see some variation of Hollingshead, Loyd and Hedges with possibly someone like Juan Esteban Ortiz in the midfield to help out.
We'll have our usual lineup selection on Thursday but until then, who do you think will go?
