It was a sunny day, but a cold sharp breeze unfortunately was hitting the stadium. If there's one thing you can bet on in Texas, it's that it's going to be windy. St. Patty's day parade was earlier in the day also, so I had double digit numbers of jell-o shots and regular shots in me by early afternoon. As a result my voice was louder and more obnoxious than normal which drew the looks of several kids wondering what was wrong with this guy. What was wrong was the multiple scares and near misses by both teams throughout as woeful finishing and amazing Jesse Gonzalez saves kept this one level for most of the game.
Bouncing Right Back!
Oh man, after last week's incredibly frustrating match, coming out to cheer the team on as they attempted to right the ship was the objective. Cheering was happening, mainly from El Matador and the Guardians, but the team wasn't able to translate that support into goals unfortunately. By the second half I was starting to freeze my butt to my seat!
Until that is, the second freaking half! Our maestro did it again, clipping the underside of the bar...absolutely gorgeous free kick to put us in front. The crowd went nuts as the Hoops sparked some life back into us. It was just a warm up though as a long ball forward was sweetly struck by Urruti for the second goal.
Maybe it was the extremely cold weather combined with being on an obligatory 'get drunk' day in Dallas? Either way, the crowd was just not ideal in terms of butts in seats overall. The Beer Garden was packed nicely, the east stand was respectably full for the cameras, but the West side...wowzers. Although to be fair, the FO has nearly always had a struggle with selling out the west stand to capacity. It seems like the only times it's actually sold out is on the 4th of July.
As the weather warms up though, hopefully we'll start that sell out streak that the front office seemed so sure of before the season started. Grab your friends and bring them to the next game! We need their voices, and of course yours.
And finally, your fan quote of the night: "Been drinking since 10 am, need to slow down, but that Mauro Diaz goal calls for some celebration booze."
Did anyone else go to the St. Patty's Day parade before the game? How much alcohol did you have in you even before you got to the stadium? Anyone have any ideas on how the heck we can get the west stand some people? Let me know in the comments below!
