It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma City Energy FC has announced on Thursday that they have signed former Houston Dynamo winger Alex Dixon for the 2017 season – pending league and federation approval.
Dixon, 26, will join OKC after a brief stint with the Jacksonville Armada, where he appeared in 15 matches for the club, scoring two goals and assisting one.
Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen commented on the signing, pointing out the winger’s immense pace.
“He gives us something different than what we already have. He’s extremely fast, but still fast with quality,” Nielsen said. "We tried to get him before last season, so we’re very excited to bring him on board year."
A Bay City, Texas native, Dixon has spent time in the United States top four leagues. The 26 -year-old has spent time with Reading United, Houston Dynamo, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Rochester Rhinos, Jacksonville Armada, and now the Oklahoma City Energy FC.
Dixon expressed his excitement to sign with the Energy, stating that Nielsen’s philosophy was a huge factor in his decision.
“I decided to sign with the Energy after speaking with Jimmy,” said Dixon. “He described what kind of team he was trying to build and he has an attacking philosophy which is right up my alley. I'm looking forward to playing in front of the great fans that the club have and I think with the group the club is putting together we have a good chance of winning a championship which is the ultimate goal.”
