FC Dallas announced on Tuesday that they have signed defender Matt Hedges to a new contract that will keep him in Frisco through the 2020 season.
The new four year deal comes on the heels of him winning Defender of the Year in 2016 and being named to the league’s Best XI. Hedges was a massive part of the clubs success in 2016 that saw them win the league’s Supporters’ Shield and the US Open Cup.
The move also means that Hedges will likely earn a solid pay bump in 2017. This past season he earned $152,000, making him easily one of the best bargain values in all of MLS. No official word on what his new pay will be but we could imagine he will fall in like with previous Defender of the Year winners in getting a deal that would pay him somewhere in the $250k-$300k range.
What do you make of FCD locking up Hedges for four more years?
