The Oklahoma City Energy FC has announced the signing of Colombian midfielder Juan Pablo Guzman for the 2017 season – pending USL and U.S. Soccer Federation approval.
Guzman, 28, spent 2016 playing with the Colombian first division side Patriotas. Before his move to South America, Guzman played in the USL for Louisville City, where he appeared in 29 matches and scored one goal.
The 28-year-old has spent time in Premier Development League with the Charlotte Eagles and the Southern California Seahorses. Over a span of 5 years with the two sides, Guzman had played well over 100 matches while scoring four goals.
“Excellent experience in USL with Charlotte and Louisville,” said Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen. “In this re-building phase for our team, it’s important to bring in someone with experience like Guzman. He will be one of those guys on the team that everyone can rely on. Good game experience. Good leadership. He will play an important role on and off the field.”
“I am really excited about joining Energy FC for the 2017 season. I chose to come to OKC because it was the best club for this next stage of my career and I look forward to the challenge of competing for a championship in the western conference,” said Guzman. “I want to give my all to the club and the city and look forward to great success on the field.”
