MLS Cup is set but what else is going on?

The weekend is nearly here as we get further into the offseason.

Oscar Pareja named Coach of the Year | Big D Soccer

To say we were happy about this was a bit of an understatement. A seriously well deserved win for Papi.

Award belongs to the entire coaching staff |

In a way it does, because not only has Pareja built a solid foundation with this team but he has put together a coaching staff that just flat out works well together. Probably one of the more underrated parts of this team if we’re being honest.

Naturally, Papi credits everyone else for the win. Such a classy guy.

Atlanta close to landing Sean Johnson, Nagbe rumors and more |

So much in this piece. But first the whole Johnson to Atlanta thing is crazy. I guess in some ways Chicago may be looking at someone like a Brad Guzan for next year. Who knows.

Six clubs that may sign Guzan | Fox Soccer

Yep, after seeing what Tim Howard did here this season, it should be no shocker that some MLS sides are looking at Guzan to be next year’s guy to get them to the promise land.

Fabian Johnson could be an option for MLS | Washington Post

And another guy that could be worth watching in the rumors over the next month or so. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing him here in Dallas.

Talking Expansion Draft strategy | E Pluribus Loonum

While we don’t know the protection lists just yet for Atlanta and Minnesota to go through here, if I were these two clubs I would focus on getting solid complementary pieces through this draft. No need to swing for the fences here.

Tata vs Heath: which expansion side made the better move | Dirty South Soccer

Both coaches are interesting hires for each expansion side. If I had to tip my hat to one over the other it may actually be Minnesota, purely on the notion that Adrian Heath has done the whole expansion team thing before in MLS.

Gulati takes part in NASL and USL talks | ESPNFC

Just merge the two leagues already and call it a day. Or at least bump USL to D2 and move NASL down to D3. My gut tells me we still see a few NASL clubs jump over to USL when it is all said and done here. Indy, Jacksonville, maybe the new San Fransisco club.
