The lone FCD player taken on the day is a beloved veteran.

The Expansion Draft has come and gone and FC Dallas unfortunately lost out on their longest tenured player in defender Zach Loyd.

Atlanta United selected the veteran defender with their third pick of the draft. Because of their selection, Minnesota was unable to snag any other FC Dallas player per the rules of the draft.

Loyd has been with FC Dallas since he was drafted in 2010 out of UNC with the fifth selection in the draft that year. Loyd has played in 180 regular season games for the club since 2010. He was a regular starter at both right back and then more recently at center back.

During a USOC game in June against Oklahoma City Energy FC, Loyd suffered a broken nose and a concussion that kept him out of the remainder of the 2016 season. FC Dallas opted not to re-sign him following the season and allowed his contract to expire.

Along with Loyd, Atlanta snagged two keepers in Clint Irwin and Alec Kann, defenders Donny Toia and Mikey Ambrose.

The interesting note is seeing two keepers taken by Atlanta even when they are in the middle of some talks with US national team keeper Brad Guzan. There have been some reports that they will be making additional trades today, so one of them could be on the way back out.

What do you make of losing Loyd? Sad to see him go or do you think it will even matter?
