Announced early Wednesday morning, the Oklahoma City Energy FC have bolstered the defensive backline by signing center back Sam Fink for the 2017 season.
Fink, a Missouri native, will join OKC after spending two years with the Western Conference side Saint Louis FC. In his brief stint with the Midwestern club, the 23-year-old played in a total of 53 matches, scoring a total of four goals from the backfield.
In the 2015 USL season alone, the 23-year-old played every minute of the regular season, implying that the center back’s durability was a major factor when evaluating the signing.
Obviously, Fink’s talents have been noticed. Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen praised the defender’s impressive skill set, claiming that the defender shined in past meetings.
“Sam is a player that we thought stood out from Saint Louis,” Nielsen said. “Game after game, he was strong for his side. He has everything we are looking for in a center back.”
Fink will join OKC veterans Danni Konig, Coady Andrews, Kyle Hyland, and Daniel Gonzalez as the Energy’s fifth signing for the 2017 season.
