FC Dallas advances to the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals thanks to a 5-2 win over Guatemalan champions CD Suchitepéquez.

FCD came from behind in this one to pick up the victory as they were down 2-0 in the first 22 minutes of the game. Five minutes in off a bad clearance from a corner kick, the ball hit off Tesho Akindele and into the net for Suchi’s first goal of the match.

In the 22nd minute Suchi got their second goal as the ball was played into the box to Wilson Morales. The Suchi attacker had no trouble getting by Jesse Gonzalez to give the home side the early 2-0 advantage.

FC Dallas charged back however and five minutes later Akindele was the man setting up the goal to get Dallas on the board. The Canadian international drive past two defenders before firing off a shot that was cleared out but only to Carlos Gruezo who fired a hard rebound into the back of the net.

Not ten minutes later FC Dallas tied things up on a free kick from Mauro Rosales. The veteran midfielder sent in a perfectly weighted ball into the box where Matt Hedges got a head on it and scored the tying goal.

FC Dallas took the lead shortly after halftime in the 51st minute off another Rosales free kick. This time Atiba Harris was there to get a foot on the ball to find the back of the net.

After some shaky defending on FCD’s part, things settled down and in the 87th minute, Dallas finally got an insurance goal off a Suchi player. Maynor Figueroa sent in a ball that was hit into the back of the net by one of the Suchi players.

The fifth goal came as stoppage time was beginning from Carlos Lizarazo who blasted a hard shot from 25 yards out.

Dallas will face Panamanian side Arabe Unido with the home-and-home series happening in February and March of 2017.
