All we need is a draw. That is the theme of the week for FC Dallas as they head to Guatemala City tonight for their final group stage game in the CONCACAF Champions League.
In their way are the Guatemalan champions C.D. Suchitepequez. The teams are deadlocked on five points each going into Thursday night's Group H finale. Both have a +1 goal differential. Victory puts the winner on to the quarterfinals. A draw goes to FC Dallas, under the tiebreaker system.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. Zach Loyd (concussion), Mauro Diaz (Achilles), Carlos Ruiz (ankle), Kellyn Acosta (undisclosed injury)
Suspended. Aubrey David picked up a red in the previous meeting between these two sides.
Key player for FCD: Tesho Akindele. Given all the injuries and likelihood of a lineup shift, you have to think someone like Tesho is going to be leaned on a bit more in this one. He’s been decent at times this year but he’s also been really quiet at other times too. This is a moment he needs to shine through.
Biggest question: How many guys will be preserved for Sunday night against LA?
This is the final week of the season that we’ll be dealing with multiple games in a short span. With FCD’s season finale on Sunday in LA, you have to figure Oscar Pareja is going to rest a few key guys for this one and not expose too many people to potential injury situations.
