FC Dallas inched a little closer to a top seed in the Western Conference and potentially a Supporters’ Shield trophy with a 1-0 win on Saturday night over the LA Galaxy.
The lone goal on the night came off a Mauro Diaz corner kick to Walker Zimmerman for his fourth goal of the season.
Both teams trades shots early in the match. Two minutes into the match Michael Barrios took the ball on the right wing and played Kellyn Acosta into the top of the penalty box where the Homegrown one-timed a shot into the side netting. Minutes later, the Galaxy pressed for their first attempt with Robbie Keane forcing Chris Seitz into his first save of the match.
In the 18th minute the Galaxy found themselves on a counter attack with numbers in the Dallas defensive end. Keane played it to the right side for an open Steven Gerrard but the veteran midfielder’s shot went just wide of the far post and out of play.
Dallas found their way towards the end of the first half and nearly came away with a goal in the 36th minute on a shot that hit off the post by Maxi Urruti.
The breakthrough finally came for Dallas in the 39th minute on a corner kick goal from Zimmerman. Diaz sent in a ball to the middle of the box where Zimmerman jumped over two Galaxy defenders to head it into the back of the net.
Barrios nearly had a second goal for Dallas on a counter attack in the 65th minute. Diaz played the ball over the Galaxy defense to the space on the right side for Barrios to run on to but the Colombian’s shot at the near post didn’t have enough to beat Brian Rowe.
FC Dallas almost had an insurance goal in the 90th minute off a Mauro Rosales free kick. The ball got played through the Galaxy defense where Urruti was able to barely get a head on the ball but it would hit off the post and go out of danger.
FC Dallas returns to action in two weeks when they host the Seattle Sounders.
