It has been a while since FC Dallas dipped into their Homegrown pool for a player signing but that all changed on Tuesday as the club announced that they have signed defender Aaron Guillen to a HGP deal.
Guillen is the 14th HGP signing in the club's history and the second player from the club's El Paso affliate. He recently completed his senior season at Florida Gulf Coast University where he was a four year starter. He scored one goal and had four assists in 67 matches. In 2015, he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defender of the Year.
Guillen spent a lot of time with FCD last summer training with the first team, like many HGP prospects do. He's a natural center defender that will fit in nicely behind the likes of Matt Hedges and Zach Loyd.
He wasn't on the original MLS Combine list provided by the league last month but some scouts I have spoken to said he would have been drafted regardless had FCD not signed him. I also wouldn't read too much into him being a Walker Zimmerman replacement either, the club is still said to be finalizing a deal on him.
What do you make of this signing? Happy to see some depth added here?
