The 2016 Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup is beginning to take shape. Today the tournament announced the return of the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team to the elite Gordon Jago Super Group.
This year's tournament will take place between March 20 through 27.
US U-20s head coach Tab Ramos will lead his squad in the tournament again as they prepare for the upcoming 2017 U-20 World Cup qualifying stages this year. As the U-20 World Cup is a year away, all current players in the U.S. U-20 pool qualify for the U-19 age bracket. Its possible we'll see a couple FC Dallas players like Alejandro Zendejas or Coy Craft or academy player Martin Sala on this team.
The last time the U-20s appeared in the tournament was 2014. That team featured several current MLS stars including FC Dallas Homegrown midfielder Kellyn Acosta, who captained the team. That squad reached the finals of the Super Group to help kick start their run towards quarterfinal finish in the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Other teams announced to participate in the Super Group this year are Fluminense FC, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Coritiba FC, and Middlesbrough FC
