Training for the 2016 season has officially begun this weekend in Frisco as FC Dallas is back to work. On Saturday, FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo spoke to the media about the new players that were in camp as well as one player the club has to see return to North Texas in 2016, defender Walker Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is currently in Europe looking to get some trials with various clubs as he is reportedly with Viking FK of Norway at the moment.
Clavijo insisted over the weekend that the club has no interest in letting Zimmerman go easy, especially to another MLS side. The two spoke as recently as Friday.
"We want Walker, we're not willing to trade him, " said Clavijo. "He is a quality individual. I think conversations with his agent are pretty much where he wants to be and what we think he should be."
The talk right now is that Zimmerman is looking for more playing time this year, something that Clavijo won't promise.
"I am not going to guarantee him or anyone playing time," said Clavijo. "But I think the offers we have put out are in tune with what we believe he is. And we believe he is one of the best players in the league at that position."
FC Dallas had extended Zimmerman a new contract following the 2015 season after his Generation adidas deal ran out but the two sides have not yet agreed on a new deal.
