FC Dallas didn't make a ton of noise in Thursday's SuperDraft as teams like Chicago, Colorado and Philadelphia did with trades as they stayed at number 17 while selecting keeper Ryan Herman out of the University of Washington.
Herman was a Third Team All-American for Washington in 2015 as he helped lead the Huskies in a tough Pac 12 conference. Herman finished third in the nation with a save percentage of 87.6. Lead the Pacific 12 Conference with 85 saves and 0.63 goals against average. Herman is also a big player at 6-foot-7 and has also seen time with the US U-18s in the past and was a member of the Seattle Sounder FC academy system.
Before the draft we explained that FC Dallas had a depth need in goalkeeper and Oscar Pareja made sure to fill that need with this pick.
It should also be noted that on the draft broadcast, ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman stated that FC Dallas is also in serious discussion with a 'high-level' national team center back. So the depth in that area could be resolved very soon as well. We'll have more on that as soon as we hear anything.
