After yet another loss in Kansas City, FC Dallas wasn't hurt too badly in the Supporter's Shield race, but another defeat could take the power of games-in-hand away from the team. My three thoughts this week:
It's said countless times: If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. This is the point that FC Dallas is at. They've split decisions at home against the Galaxy this season but have had back luck in LA for the longest time. If FC Dallas wants to be referred to like LAG is referred to, FCD needs to get at least a point tomorrow night in Carson.
FC Dallas is 5-23-4 all-time in LA and is currently on a six-game winless streak at the StubHub Center. Even a draw tomorrow night could go a long way in deciding the Supporter's Shield with a back-to-back coming up against leader Vancouver.
The Galaxy have nine players that have started at least ten games against FC Dallas, while FCD has just four of that sort. In a season that's been defined by young players stepping up, they'll need to step up in a big way tomorrow night for a young FC Dallas team.
That being said, they've shown their capable of that going back to the 3-0 win in Columbus when the average age of the starting lineup was 20 years. Look for one of those young players to make an impact.
It's How You Finish
FC Dallas has six games remaining and currently owns both a knockout round bye and a berth in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. Last season, FC Dallas had a chance to take over 4th place in the west and avoid the knockout round, but went just 3-3 in their final six games and missed out on that spot by two points.
FC Dallas needs to finish strong not only to bring momentum into the playoffs, but to make sure they avoid a first-round matchup and get to the Champions League for the first time since 2011.
That's all I've got this week, enjoy tomorrow's game!
