Shield Contender or Playoff Positioning?

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

I hate the over use of the phrase "do or die" when it comes to sports and I certainly will not use it now, but I will admit that this weekend's match up has a similar vibe. Mathematically, Dallas is still very much in the thick of the race for the Supporter's Shield. Yes, this is America and the playoffs is the ever decisive voice of crowning a true champion, regardless of how silly it is, but I want the Shield more than the MLS Cup. Not to say that I wouldn't want the MLS Cup too, but if given the choice, I would pick the Shield every time.

And now that Dallas is within striking distance of actually securing it and everything will be decided in the next 6 games, it's time to get serious with these lineup choices. No more tinkering, no more experimenting, no more leaving our best players in the bench. If I were in charge, it's back to the 4-4-2 with Fabian Castillo, Blas Perez, Tesho Akindele and Michael Barrios running the attack and force everyone to adjust to us, rather than reacting to them. But that's me and me living our my priority. What will you do if you were in charge this week against LA? This is a side that's coming off a three game winless streak where they've seen their goals dry up (they've scored none) and are looking to get themselves into better playoff position.

As of this writing (9/22) the injury report looks pretty stacked:

  • Mauro Diaz
  • Dan Kennedy
  • Bakary Soumare
  • Stephen Keel
  • Kellyn Acosta
Followed by the usual suspects out on loan:
  • Danny Garcia
  • Otis Earle
So, if you were in charge, what would you do? How would you line up? Go for the win and strike while LA's down? Play a little safe, get out without any injuries, save some legs and try to get out with a point?
