The summer months are now in the books as FC Dallas moves into the final eight weeks of the 2015 regular season. September may very well hold the keys to where FCD might land in terms of a playoff spot with four big games on the slate.
August was not as good of a month as we all had hoped for with only three points in four games. FCD goes out on three different road trips in this month, meaning points are going to be tough to get.
Columbus Crew SC - away - September 6 (6:00 pm)
This may be another must-win type game to kick off the month as both teams will be dealing with international call-ups. Columbus has handled Dallas fairly well over the last couple years though too. But if FCD gets some guys like Mauro Diaz back for this one, there really should be little excuse for them to come away with some points.
New York City FC - home - September 12 (7:30 pm)
The lone home game on the schedule this month is a big one as well. NYCFC brings in their big names like Frank Lampard, David Villa and Andrea Pirlo along with a familiar face like Andrew Jacobson that FCD fans may remember. Given the struggles the expansion side has faced lately, this is a game that Dallas should win.
Sporting Kansas City - away - September 18 (6:00 pm)
Another Friday game to look forward to here. SKC has been a torn in FCD's side this season at Sporting Park with some big blow out wins. The one saving grace may be SKC's current form, which shows them as losers of three straight. If that form continues into this third week of the month, FCD might have a good shot to come away with something for a change in Kansas City.
LA Galaxy - away - September 27 (8:30 pm)
The last match of the month is definitely setting up to be one of the biggest of the season. LA is the current Supporters' Shield leaders and this game could go a very long way in determining some playoff positioning. LA does have to travel to the Caribbean on the Wednesday before this match too, so maybe some jet lag will help FCD out.
A big month ahead may be an understatement. Given the struggles in August and the amount of road games in September, I think a fair result for the team may be getting five or six points out of this month. I think if they can at least pick up a win and a draw out of the three road games, it will go a long way in helping them out in terms of playoff positioning.
What do you all think is doable this month? Six points? Four points? Eight or nine points?
