FC Dallas head coach Oscar ParejaGeneral thoughts on the match…There were two different halves for us. In the first half, we had a lot of control, a lot of options and a lot of energy to pressure and put New York City FC on its heels. In the second half, we lost control of the game. New York came up with some variations and gave us problems that we were forced to deal with until the very end. They made me think about how a team like ours, that is growing so much, could hold on and get a result that was very difficult to obtain. We played against great footballers and our boys should be very proud. We managed the tempo in the first half. They gave us a great soccer performance tonight.

On Michel stepping up and performing in his first MLS start since mid-June…
We are a team. We don’t have individuals. This team has been made of people who work to make things happen for the team that they want to be on. Michel came out today and stepped up. It was a great performance from a player that I respect a lot.

[Michel’s] professionalism is a good example to the kids we have in the academy and the players that are growing in our program. They always see a player who is willing to work despite the circumstances. The last game Michel played was probably in June and you can see today that he was in his best fitness form. Something has been happening, both with the fitness coach that has been on top of him, respecting him and giving him all that he needs and the professional that is absorbing all that and doing his job.

On the second half…
New York FC pushed a lot, threw in a lot of bodies and took control of the midfield. Michel and Kellyn [Acosta] started getting stretched. Kellyn was hurt. He played 50 minutes with a strain in his groin, and he was sacrificing a lot of things there, which New York took advantage of. It was a stretch already. That numerical superiority in the middle got them some chances and they gained territory, giving us difficulty. When you win, when you get points, sometimes the joke is that the defense was a little quieter but they had a tremendous performance. The commitment that they had to keeping our goal empty and not giving up any goals [during the run of play] was very important.

On facing [Andrea] Pirlo and [Frank] Lampard...
It's crazy. These are guys I idolized growing up. Great players. Great talent. I was very excited to play against them and show them what I was made of. I wasn't ready to back down, I was just ready to go out there and do my thing.

On playing next to Michel rather than Victor [Ulloa]...
Obviously they have different attributes but we know Oscar's [Pareja] system. Anyone can come in here knowing the system and do their thing. Michel did a great job scoring a goal. We did very well in the midfield.

On playing injured...
It kind of bothered me. I kinda strained it a couple days ago in training. I did my own thing yesterday, on Friday. Today, I felt a lot better than I did in training. During the game, it felt alright. Then before the second half, I started feeling it. I am glad I finished off the game well. I am glad we got the big win.

FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele
General thoughts on the match…
It was a decent game. It wasn’t our best performance, quality-wise but we showed character. We all showed character today. Everyone just dug in and worked hard even though our passes were not the best, and our control was not the best, we worked hard defensively. That is just what it takes sometimes.

On New York City FC…
We were just trying to contain them. We knew they had a lot of quality, so we wanted to make sure that any time they had the ball we were pressuring them.

On Michel…
His quality… His delivery is spot on. I don’t know if anyone in the league hits a better ball. No left-footer for sure can hit a better ball. He is incredible. His corner kicks... It was a free goal but it went in because it had so much pace. It was exactly in the right spot. It always has a chance to go in, even against a professional goalkeeper. It’s pretty amazing. He is a true pro. He has been around the block. He knows he is an important part of the team and he was ready when he was called upon.

FC Dallas midfielder Michel
General thoughts on the match…
We played very well. We scored two goals. We had chances to score more. In the second half, New York had to score two, they needed to go forward. We did good. We defended. We sat back a little. We have a lot of work to do to improve for our next game. I think we can play better than we did tonight.

On staying ready despite spending time out of the lineup…
We never know when the opportunity is coming. Yesterday, Victor [Ulloa] was ready to play. Today he was not. I waited for my chance. Every time the coach needs me or the team needs me, I will be ready. I will be ready to help this team. I am so glad for tonight.

What is the secret to staying fit despite the lack of playing time?
Work. I work every day. I enjoy every minute I have on the field. That is why I was able to make a difference tonight. I have to keep working and try to do better and better every day.

On his goal…
I tried to put the ball at the near post. That is what we were working on during the week. I had luck. There was luck, but I am so glad for the goal. It’s a different emotion when you score a goal like that. Hopefully they begin to come more and more.
