FC Dallas vs New York City FC: Preview, prediction and how to watch online

FC Dallas looks to knock off another expansion side this season.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

We move into the month of September, as FC Dallas travels to Ohio for the lone meeting of the season against theColumbus Crew SC.

FC Dallas notes:

Final game against the east. FC Dallas' match NYCFC is its last match against an Eastern Conference opponent this season. FCD is currently 6‐2‐1 against the East.

Tesho and Tex. According to the club's game notes, Tesho Akindele and David Texeira have been paired together up front three times this season. The Canadian and Uruguayan have a record of 1‐1‐1. Before Aug. 29, they did not appear together since a 3‐1 loss in Portland on April 4. The 2‐0 win against RSL was the duo's first victory.

Homecoming for Dallas original. New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis scored FC Dallas' first goal in a 3‐0 win against San Jose on April 18, 1996. The all‐time leading scorer (91) and assist man (65), Kreis' photo still adorns the southeast corner of Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Kreis and FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja played together in Dallas for eight seasons (1998 ‐ 2005).

Playing the kids and breaking records. Dallas' Homegrown players logged a league high 4,607 minutes or 14% of the team's total minutes in 2014 (61GP, 50GS). Dallas is leading the charge in MLS again this season with 5,109 minutes (19.8%) played by Homegrown players Victor Ulloa, Moises Hernandez, Kellyn Acosta, Alejandro Zendejas, Coy Craft and Jesse Gonzalez.

Key player for FCD: Michael Barrios. The Colombian is about as hot as they come right now. Only a few other players in MLS are as hot as Barrios since the beginning of July. I see this game as another chance for him to step up and continue to shine against a pretty weak defense.

Biggest question: Will FCD overlook this NYCFC team?

While NYCFC has the big names like Frank Lampard, David Villa and Andrea Pirlo, they don't have a collectively good side to compete with some of the top teams in the league like FCD is striving to become. If FCD wants to make their name clear in the Supporters' Shield race, this is a game that they cannot afford to stumble in. The club has struggled against bad teams like Chicago, Montreal and Colorado this season. Getting this kind of monkey off their back needs to happen.

I see some early struggles in this one for both sides but in the end, the attacks get going and FCD comes out on top as they have a little more juice to go here while the FCD defense steps up and ensures another three points at home.
