Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and new expansion club NYCFC will visit Frisco this weekend for the inaugural matchup between FCD and NYC.
Dallas has won two straight since going on a three-game losing streak. Building on their recent success on the defensive side of the ball will be the key to making it three straight wins.
"I think all year we’ve been growing in that department," defender Zach Loyd said. "As a whole unit I think we continue to improve on that."
However, shutting down NYCFC’s stars will be a tough task and FCD will need to be aware of where they are at all times. New York City is towards the bottom of the standings, but they are not a team to write off.
"They’re great players," Loyd said. "We know with time and space they will punish us."
FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja acknowledges the quality of NYCFC’s players, but says it’s about who plays better and nothing else. He emphasized that his players are no different from their opposition.
"There are some players that are special," Pareja said. "But, everyone here in Frisco will have two legs, two arms, a heart, and everybody has a brain."
Homegrown midfielder Kellyn Acosta stressed that it’s just another game.
"We know our game plan," Acosta said. "We just need to attack their weaknesses and expose them as much as possible."
"Obviously they’re great players," he said. "I think we just need to play our game and bring it to them and good things will happen."
