This month has been rather brutal for FC Dallas with three straight losses. Now they return home for the final time in the month to host a team that has only won a single game ever in Frisco.
FC Dallas notes:
Last time they met. For the second week in a row, FC Dallas is facing an opponent for the first time in 2015. FC Dallas went 1‐1‐1 against RSL last season, winning 2‐1 in the lone match at Toyota Stadium on Aug. 22, 2014. Je‐Vaughn Watson (50th minute) and Fabian Castillo (74th minute) scored to lead the way while Michel picked up assists on both goals.
Back-to-back losses at home. According to the club's game notes, FC Dallas has not lost back‐to‐back matches at Toyota Stadium since Oct. 12, 2013.
Playing the kids and breaking records. FC Dallas is expected to surpass its own Homegrown record for minutes played in a season (4,607 in 2014) in its next match. With Homegrown goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez taking over for injured Dan Kennedy against Vancouver on Aug. 22, FCD logged 264 minutes from Homegrown players: Gonzalez (90), Kellyn Acosta (90) and Victor Ulloa (84). Dallas needs 144 minutes to break the record.
Key player for FCD: Blas Perez. If Mauro Diaz is out for this one (which is a strong possibility), the offense will have to find some sort of spark and I think Perez is the guy that needs to get his mojo going here as the playoffs near. Five goals this season and none since May tell a big story with Perez. He needs to step up in a big way and this the game to do it.
Biggest question: Will the team go winless in August?
This month has been rough to say the least but one could point to the last two games and say that FCD has been good despite the losses. But no matter how you spin it, this is a must-win game for the guys. With RSL, a hot San Jose and an emerging Houston team behind them in the standings, a loss here can not happen.
I'm hopeful that this result will happen for FCD. Even without Diaz, I think the return home and the hotter weather could play a factor for FCD to get the points in this one.
