Overall thoughts on the match…
We had a pretty consistent night with a lot of moments showing good fitness, good mentality. I thought we sustained the aggressiveness and the pace for the whole game and that says a lot of things about the program and about the mentality of the players. The first half, I thought we dominated. We created the options. We sustained that attack and in the second half it was the same story. We gave up a goal in the second half that makes us think there are still a lot of things to get better at, but I thought the willingness of the team to go and fight for the three points, that was incredible. That was a magic night for the whole team and now I can’t be more proud.
On the team’s resiliency…
That’s this team. Probably I cannot even pronounce it well, but I found it a pretty good description of what this team is and I like that because we are in a growing process. We’re a team that is still young. We’re playing two of our Academy products (Kellyn Acosta and Victor Ulloa) in the heart of the field, but they are playing against everybody in the league and they are doing a terrific job. All those things just make us think there are a lot of good things coming for a franchise that is getting the support of the fans little by little and we’ll get there, but today was soccer. It was a lot of soccer for FC Dallas and I know people enjoyed that.
On Fabian Castillo earning his first MLS All-Star nod…
We told him last night and the answer from Fabian was "Coach, let’s get the three points first," and that says a lot.
MLS All-Star Fabian CastilloOn the win…It was a great day. I am very happy. It was well earned. I am just going to continue to try and make the best of it.
On the All-Star selection…I am very happy about being selected for my first all-star game.
On the go ahead goal…I just wanted to hit the ball hard to make sure that it went into the net, and that was the most important thing.
FC Dallas Kellyn AcostaOn the goal…It was a long time coming, finally… I had a few shots today, but luckily, I was in the right spot at the right time and put it away. I’m happy about that. I was in the right spot at the right time and I was lucky I finished it.
On attacking more…We’ve been working on a lot of movement off of the ball during practice and it paid off, Mauro [Diaz] and [Fabian] Castillo got off shots, and I was able to get off one or two.
On the win…Overall, the team is very happy. We played very well. We are moving on to focus on Portland to get our next three points.
