Tesho Akindele was one of 23 players named to the Canadian National Team today for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Dominica.
Canada is scheduled to play a home-and-away series against Dominica in the second CONCACAF Preliminary Round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The team will train in Orlando, Fla., from June 7 to June 10, before traveling to Warner Park in Roseau, Dominica, for its match on June 11. The teams meet again five days later, on June 16, at BMO Field in Toronto. The second leg of the series is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET).
Akindele told FCDallas.com that the decision to join Canada was something he took a while to make.
"First of all, it's just a great honor to represent my country - you know something I've been dreaming about since I was a kid," said Akindele. "I asked my family, friends and even the people I was playing with [here in Dallas] and weighed everyone's opinion with my own thoughts and I think that helped me come to the right decision."
Akindele will be available for FC Dallas this weekend in San Jose before joining the Canadian side in Florida.
