We all know last week was a total disappointment for FC Dallas as they dropped their first game of the season. Now the guys are back home this week for a Friday night showdown with the Colorado Rapids.
Colorado is 0-1-3 on the season, as they too are coming off a loss from last weekend. The Rapids defense has only allowed two goals on the season as well, both coming last weekend in their loss to New England.
FC Dallas notes:
Out: Dan Kennedy (back spasms)
Doubtful: Stephen Keel (foot), Coy Craft (shoulder), Mauro Diaz (knee, hamstring)
Best defensive start in a decade. According to the club's game notes, despite the 3‐1 loss suffered by FC Dallas last week, the team remains on track for one of the best years, defensively. Only the 1999 team played better defense through the first five matches of the season. The 1999 squad finished the season with 35 goals against, second only to the 2010 team (28GA) that went to MLS Cup.
Streak against Colorado. FC Dallas has a three‐game winning streak alive against the Rapids, winning all three meetings a season ago. FC Dallas has won the last four meetings between the teams in Frisco, Colorado last winning there in 2012. The teams face each other twice in the next three weeks.
Rough start for the Rapids. With the loss to New England last weekend, the Rapids saw its overall winless streak reach 18 matches, tying the all‐time MLS record set by Real Salt Lake in 2005‐06. The Rapids are 23 minutes away from the all‐time record for a scoreless streak to start an MLS season (Toronto FC, 2007); theyhave now not scored a goal in their last 600 minutes in league play.
Key player for FCD: Fabian Castillo. The young Colombian has had a good track record against the Rapids in the last couple of seasons. For FCD to get back on track here this season following the loss to Portland, Castillo will need to step up his game a bit and be the headache that we know he can be for opposing teams on Friday night.
Biggest question: How many changes will we see out of Pareja?
From the looks of things, we'll see a fairly different lineup on Friday night with Moises Hernandez and Blas Perez returning to the lineup following their 'rest from international duty'. But will we see Mauro Diaz? Right now it appears that at best he could come off the bench for FCD this week as he only trained with the club on Tuesday (he did light work this morning by the way). Also, we may also see the first start of the year out of Je-Vaughn Watson as well at right back.
Colorado's defense has been very good this season but last week proved that they have holes that can be exploited. FCD should rebound in this game and even if it isn't pretty, they'll get the three points.
FCD 1, Colorado 0
