As it has been expected, the Montreal Impact have claimed Kenny Cooper off waivers. The club announced the signing today as the team prepares for their run at the CONCACAF Champions League title.
According to the Impact, Cooper will arrive in Montreal on Monday and begin training with his newest club.
Cooper was recently placed on waivers by the Seattle Sounders, the team FC Dallas traded him to last winter for midfielder Adam Moffat. The Impact will be the fifth MLS club of Cooper's career after stints with hometown side FC Dallas (2006-09 and 2013), the Portland Timbers (2011), the New York Red Bulls (2012) and the Sounders (2014). The veteran forward has 75 regular season MLS goals to his name in 210 appearances.
So I suppose those of you that didn't want Cooper to land here again can rest easy tonight knowing that he is off in Montreal. We recently explored the idea of landing Cooper again following his release in Seattle but after this past weekend, it is apparent the club has more glaring needs in the middle of the field that we'll dive more into tomorrow.
