Opening thoughts on tonight’s game…
[Colorado Rapids] played a great game and I have to congratulate that group of players. Their organization put on a great performance today - we didn't have any answers for them. We are obviously frustrated because we want to win at home. We want to win in games that represent the conference and we know how important those points are for us. That's the game.
I'm the one who obviously who has to take responsibility for these results. I'm still very proud of this group of players. This is the moment that in the year plus that I have been here when I have loved them the most. This is the group of players that I want to be around and this is the group of players that I want to coach. Tomorrow will be preparation for Toronto. That's the way the game goes.
Did you look past Colorado?...That's not the way we are. The respect we have for Colorado, for Toronto and for the other teams that have been here is the same. There are a lot of things that we need to review as a group, but I didn't think we did that at any moment. We respect them and we came out today with the desire to win the three points.
FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris SeitzGeneral thoughts on the match…We’ve been a strong team at home recently and to come out here and get whooped like we did… It’s something we just have to take in stride… Take that punch to the chin… We were humbled today. Colorado is a team that had created a lot of chances in every match they played this season. They hit the post a couple of times. There were a couple great saves by ‘keepers to keep them off the scoreboard. They blew up today. Credit them. They came out and fought for every loose ball. They probably won about every 50/50 ball. Everything… Credit to them... They were a team that was super-hungry. For us, it was a wake-up call. That was a big one and a big one at home.
How do you think the team will respond to this?
It’s a really long season. When we were getting asked about our hot start to the season, we were saying the same thing – it’s a very long season. There are going to be ups and downs. This is defiantly a point that hurts. We got handled at home today. For us, we’re going to take it and look to right some wrongs this next weekend. We’re going to let this sink in a little bit, try to learn from it, and come out flying next Saturday, I can guarantee that.
How do you explain giving up seven goals in two matches after starting the season with shutouts in three of your first four matches?
I credit the teams we were facing. Going to Portland is never an easy task and we were right in that game until late. We have a good team. We defend well as a unit as you could see in the first few games. We’ve been a bit stressed the last two weeks. Credit to the [opposition] they’re hitting good goals and finishing their opportunities. We have a lot to learn. We know that it’s a long, long season but there will always be opportunities like this to learn from. We need to take this opportunity and do something with it.
FC Dallas forward Tesho AkindeleWhen asked about takeaways from the game and possible improvements…It wasn’t a good game for us… It just wasn’t our day. We will figure it out this week… Figure out what we did wrong… We will do better next week
When asked about a possible PK for Dallas that wasn’t whistled in the 33rd minute…The referee did not call the hand ball so it was not a hand ball… From my point of view it looked like a hand ball.
On the team’s build up…It is hard to tell in the moment what went wrong. We will have video all week and our coaches will figure out what we can do better.
FC Dallas defender Zach LoydWhat can you take away from a game like this? This was very humbling for us… Losing 4-0 at home is difficult. Tonight a lot of guys need to go back and think about the game, but overall I am still proud to be part of this team. We have a good future ahead of us. It was a tough game for us. It was tough and difficult, but during tough and difficult times we learn so much about each other. We will flush this game out. I am proud of this team. We will continue working hard until the end.
On Colorado…I am not sure if I can say that Colorado was hungrier to win. Their backs were against the wall. There was a lot of intensity in the game. They had all the answers tonight and we did not. We will play them again in a week so we will get another chance. Overall, I believe the toughest times are when the team grows the most. Once the end of the season comes we will be stronger.
