Quote Sheet

FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja

Overall thoughts on the game...

It was certainly a very difficult game we had tonight with a team that gave us some problems in the first half. We created some options but not as many as in the second half when the team was eager to move up front and create more spaces where Victor and Mauro were more involved. Tesho, Fabian, Brian and Blas started creating some movements, which made [San Jose's] defenders uncomfortable. That way we played in their half in the second half and that gave us the best chances. It was a very well-deserved three points for our boys and I'm very glad for Blas (Perez), who is an example of the character of this team and of this club.

We found a team that was very physical, and I can remember four or five clear chances to score in the second half, so I can be nothing but pleased with the work we did.

On Blas Perez...

Blas (Perez) has the character that we develop in this club and is a good example for me that what we're doing is not teaching them but helping them to learn, which is very different. I can say that we're taking it to the next level by helping them to learn these things, especially the youngsters. I feel like every day we have to teach them less and less and Blas is leading that path.

On the atmosphere...

To start at home with the quality of the team that we saw tonight and obviously getting the three points against a very physical team is important. I would like to send the message to our community and our fans that we just want them to come and see (the boys) play. Seeing the stadium today, as it was, generated a lot of passion in the players, and for those (fans) who couldn't attend tonight, I would like to personally invite (them) to come and see the boys play.

FC Dallas forward Blas Perez

General thoughts on the match...

It was a very difficult game, very complicated right from the opening whistle. We lost our form but started to get it back in the second half. Gladly, I was able to be in the right place at the right time and found the ball to score the game-winning goal and get the three points.

What does it say about the team's character to get a winning goal that late?

This is a team of fighters. This is a team that is never going to give up. We're always going to be looking for a way to pull out a victory at the end of a match. We have strong character and strong players. That is the way the coach wants the team to play. At the end of the day, you get rewarded if you keep working for it, even if it comes in the last minute.

FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele

On the result...

No one lost confidence. We felt like we were going to score. It ended up happening so everyone was able to take that sigh of relief. We had a lot of chances against them and we were coming up empty handed for a while so to get the goal and the result is huge for us. Those are a huge three points.

On Michael Barrios...

He played well, especially for his first match. I'm sure there were some nerves on his part but he looked calm. He sent in a couple good crosses. He created chances for us and that is all you can ask for. He set up a few things and that is something you definitely need. He looks like he can set up a play as well as he can finish them.

How does tonight set the tone for the rest of the season?

It's a great start. You can't start any better than that. We're feeling confident.

FC Dallas defender Zach Loyd

General thoughts on the match...

It was great. What a good way to get a win... It's a good start to a long season but when you open at home you want to come out on the right leg. We've been pretty good about that the past couple years. We were knocking on the door the last 20 minutes of the match so I thought it was a well-deserved win and a good way to start the season.

On San Jose...

Since I have been in the league Dominic Kinnear coached teams are always hard to play against. His teams are always hard working. He has only been there for a short time but you can see that foundation is starting to come from the group. They worked very hard on both sides of the ball. I can see his characteristics coming out in the team. It takes time, just like anything, but I'm sure he'll build a very good team in San Jose.

On getting a shutout in the opening match...

As a defender you always need to have pride and try to get a shutout. This year, it helps that we can continue building on last season. We have the same back four plus Atiba (Harris) so we have a little continuity there. It definitely helps to have that carry over from the year before. Atiba has slid in really well. He hasn't missed a beat over there on the right side.
