Due to prior commitments, I couldn't sit and watch all of Arizona United's 2-1 win over OC Blues. But I was able to make three observations from AZ United's 2-1 win. (Plus notes!)
Long Tan + Dennis Chin = A lot of goals
After watching two training sessions last week, I came away with one major impression: Long Tan is going to be a pain in the ass for opposing defenders. That was clear in Arizona's first goal of the season, when he was warded off two defenders, giving Chin time to follow up and eventually score from Tan's pass.
Tan holds, Chin scores
I saw Tan fight off one, two and sometimes three defenders at a time during training sessions and most of those battles resulted in either Tan passing off to a teammate or him getting a shot on frame. He just doesn't lose the ball very often That's great news for Chin and the third forward who will play alongside the pair in Dellorusso's 4-3-3.
Tan will likely wind up creating scoring opportunities for his teammates as much for himself.
Carl Woszczynski is already paying off between the pipes
Ok, it's one game. But "The Woz" put in a man-of-the-match performance in his AZ United debut and for a team that was the fourth-worst in the league, that is a welcomed site. Just watch these saves.
Nope
Nope. Nope.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Beginning of the Year Kinks
It's still the first game of the season, so mistakes are bound to happen. In this case, it resulted in a goal for Orange County. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication between the defender (Tyler Ruthann) and Woszcynski on the play or if it was just a mind fart on Ruthven's part, but it winds up being a no-harm-no-foul-situation.
Oops
The 2015 season has officially begun!
