FC Dallas announces local TV deal with TXA21

The over-the-air channel will broadcast up to 20 games this season.

FC Dallas president Dan Hunt decided to drop a fairly big announcement in his weekly Facebook chat this morning as apart of the club's Digital Day.

OK gang, let's start with the big one. I'm excited to announce that KTXA Channel 21 will be the new home of FC Dallas soccer! Up to 20 of our home and away games will be broadcast with TXA 21 - Dallas / Fort Worth. An additional 13 matches as you are well aware of will be national TV broadcasts on Fox Sports 1, ESPN2, and Unimas/Univision Deportes. We're very excited about our relationship with KTXA and know that you the fans will love this!

This is a pretty big deal for the club as they now move to a channel that is locally over-the-air. Locally, TXA is available for anyone on any cable package. It is also available for those that lack a cable package too. It also means that they will be moving away from a Time Warner Cable partnership that was very exclusive for fans.

Right now the deal says up to 20, which means a hand full of games will end up somewhere else. 3rdDegree.Net is reporting that it will likely be four games that will be on either TWC or Fox Sports Southwest, another cable channel who has aired FCD games in the past.

The big thing to note from that link is that FCD is ponying up the cash to do this for the fans. This is good considering they saved a ton of money with Time Warner these last two years.

Now the details of what this means for out-of-market fans is still unclear. I would imagine there will be some sort of blackout restrictions on this sort of thing locally but hopefully this means that FCD fans get the local broadcast more on MLS Live this time around.
