Rankings Recap: FC Dallas starts high

New, 5 comments

FCD barely came away with a win, but they're pretty high on the boards.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

After 91 minutes went by, it looked like FC Dallas was going to have to settle for one point on opening weekend. However, Blas Perez scored in added time to get all three points at home against San Jose Earthquakes. FCD will now face a Sporting Kansas City side at home, coming off a draw, and without Matt Besler. It's the first week of power rankings, and the Hoops are starting out pretty high.

Here's the latest rankings from around the web:

Comment: Didn't dominate the way many on the Power Rankings Politburo expected, and needed a bit of good fortune to get the results. But a win's a win, no matter how it happens.

Comment: If there was an all-underrated XI, Zach Loyd would have to be on it. He's durable, plays multiple positions and is as steady as they come. He was impressive once again against San Jose, and thanks to Blas Perez's late goal, he and his Dallas teammates walked off winners against San Jose.

Comment: It took Óscar Pareja’s team a while to break down ever-physical San Jose, but Dallas eventually found the breakthrough it needed to give the better team on the day its three points.

Comment: Blas Perez’s flair for the dramatic led FC Dallas to a season-opening victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. Overall, a solid performance, but Oscar Pareja will expect his side to be more clinical in front of goal going forward.

Comment: Captain Matt Hedges struggled through a rough outing, but goalie Chris Seitz and his teammates held the fort until Blas Perez got his head to a ball driven by Moises Hernandez and directed it home for a stoppage-time winner.
