FC Dallas waives Brian Span

Span never quite caught on with FCD in 2014.

FC Dallas

FC Dallas announced on Thursday afternoon that they have waived midfielder Brian Span.

Span joined the club last January through a weighted lottery. The 22-year old spent the first few matches of the 2014 season with the club before getting a loan to USL PRO side Orlando City on April 2. He played 19 games with Orlando in the third division, scoring three goals and logging a total of 1,292 minutes.

Span did return to Dallas on several occasions in the 2014 season to play in Reserve matches. He finished the year with one goal and one assist in those Reserve team matches. He only made the bench four times for the first team, with zero minutes on the field in those matches.

In a way this release is a bit of a shock considering FCD's lack of depth on the wings. But when I really think about it, this move doesn't surprise me one bit considering the lack of times he was able to break into the first team last year. I also think that when Orlando didn't snag him in the Expansion Draft that it was a sign that he probably wasn't quite cut out for things.
