General thoughts on the match…

I want to praise this group of players that made us so proud with what we've achieved this season. They deserve much for sure, but it seems the game is telling us it is not our time yet, and we will keep working. There are a lot of things ahead of this young group.

Portland is a very good team. Congratulations to them for advancing to the finals. The first half was pretty level. They congested the middle of the field. We knew it… It was difficult to cope with that. I felt the second half was ours. We created a lot of chances. We sent more people forward. We were more exposed in the back a few times. I thought it was fair, but unfortunately we could not put the ball in the back of the net in the last 10 minutes. It was a tremendous game for our players. The spirit they showed when they were down, and when they bounced back into the game was unbelievable.

The character they have developed during the year has been nothing but that spirit of fighting during the difficult moments. They have proven one more time that in spite of the tough moments, we were fighting and we will bounce back.

It has cost us a lot to get to this moment. We were about to get to the MLS Cup Final with a very young group. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to work with our players on individual improvements and reinforce our team as well. That said, the path still looks very good. We have a commitment to the club and our fans - we want nothing more than to give them titles.

On the team’s morale…

The group is going through natural pain, but that is still very good for the team. These are growing pains; pains that help us mature as coaches and players. I don't want to take this pain away from our players because that is part of the process. We continue to move forward. They left everything on the field and when one gives everything, there is no room for regrets.

General thoughts on the match…

Obviously everyone in here is disappointed. But you have to be proud of what we accomplished this year. We were one point away from getting the Supporters Shield – it came down to goal differential… Getting to the Western Conference Final… Having the chance in the 90th minute to score the equalizer… We’ll be disappointed today, but tomorrow I think everyone will realize what we have accomplished this year. The base of this squad will be here next year and we will continue to get better and better.

On the resiliency of the squad this season…

We were able to avoid injuries this season, which was our Achilles Heel the past few years. We also avoided those long losing streaks. Those killed us the last couple of years as well. You’re right, we were much more resilient than we have been the last couple of years. It showed. We could have… Last season, without those injuries, we could have made it to the [Western Conference Final] for sure. Hopefully, next year we are in an even better position.

On being named to the MLS Best XI…

It’s a huge honor. I can’t take all the credit. We got 11 guys out there that come with 110% out there on the field every week. They make me look good and that is part of the reason I’m there [on the MLS Best XI].

On Fabian Castillo being named to the MLS Best XI…

He really deserved it. Every season, he has been improving dramatically. His attitude has gotten much better. Everything has gotten much better so he really deserves to be there as well.

On the 20,966 fans that filled Toyota Stadium…

It was the best crowd we have ever had, since I got here. They were loud the whole time. The place was filled up completely. It was fantastic to have that many supporters out there. It gave us a huge boost, especially after we got that first goal. It gave us a lot of energy. It was fantastic.

General thoughts on the match…

I’m disappointed. I thought we could have done more. This was a game for us to win and we fell short. Otherwise, I am very proud of my teammates. We worked hard the whole game but it just didn’t fall for us. That is just how the game goes sometimes. We have a lot to look back on but I think going into next season, we’re positive that we’re going to keep building and get the cup next year.

On his development this season…

I just felt more confident [after playing in the Under-20 World Cup]. I felt more comfortable with my teammates and they were encouraging. My teammates have played a huge role in my success. The more touches I get, the more consistent I can be in that position – I’ll get better and better each game.

FC Dallas defender Walker Zimmerman

General thoughts on the match and this season…

Unfortunately we could not pull out the result. This season has been one of the most successful we had here in club history. So that's something to definitely keep building on for next year. Especially earning a Champions League berth. We have a lot to look forward to. We're a young team. It's going to be a good stepping stone for the future. It is hard to talk about that tonight but obviously moving forward we have a lot of potential here.

On starting tonight’s match...

I was pretty excited. I found out this morning and I was just ready to go. Zach's [Loyd] a great player and he has gotten us to this point. Such a tremendous guy on the back line. Giving the situation being down, 3-1, they wanted to get some set pieces, opportunities, just trying to get more of an attacking threat out there. I tried to do my best. We almost got a few but ultimately not enough to get it done.

On Fabian and Matt's impact to the team...

Huge. The best guys in this locker room. Two of the best in the league. They are very good at what they do. Fabian [Castillo] has been such a huge threat for us all season long getting to the end line and getting crosses, scoring goals. [Matt] Hedges has been sound for another season, again. Just a solid defender. Good guy in the locker room. Puts in the work. Two great guys and I am just really happy for them.
