Things looked to be going FC Dallas' way in the first leg of the Western Conference semifinals against the Seattle Sounders. Things would change in a hurry though as the Seattle Sounders rode two second half goals in route to a 2-1 victory Sunday night.
Dallas got on the board first in this one as the pace began to pick up in the 18th minute. FCD's first goal came on a fast counter attack that was started by Jesse Gonzalez tossing the ball out wide to Ryan Hollignshead, who then found Maruo Diaz who chipped a perfect through ball forward to Fabian Castillo. The All-Star midfielder would do the rest as he got in behind his defender and then cleverly hit the ball into the far post for the game's first goal.
Seattle would try to respond as they put pressure on Gonzalez and the rest of the Dallas defense. In the 32nd minute Seattle nearly found the back of the net as Obafemi Martins got the ball around the penalty box and played the ball back to Andreas Ivanschitz, who fired a shot from 20-yards out that would go just wide of the post.
The Sounders tied things up midway through the second half on a strike by Ivanschitz. In the 67th minute Ivanschitz recovered the ball in the midfield on a bad give away by Victor Ulloa. He then dribbled a few more feet before firing a shot to the far post and past Gonzalez.
Seattle would take the lead late in the game on a free kick by Dempsey. The play was set up by a foul outside the penalty box by Matt Hedges. Dempsey lofted a ridiculous shot over the Dallas way and past Gonzalez.
The two sides will meet up again next Sunday as things shifts back to Frisco for the second leg of the two-game series.
