A big shutout draw on the road for FCD.

The march towards the post season is really heating up as FC Dallas picked up a big 0-0 draw on the road Wednesday night against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The draw helped Vancouver clinch a berth in the post season while moving FCD up to a tie for first place with LA (FCD does have games-in-hand over the Galaxy).

Vancouver put Dallas under a lot of pressure early in this one as their leading scorer Octavio Rivero tested Homegrown keeper Jesse Gonzalez in the seventh minute on what looked like a routine stop. Rivero made his way into the penalty box and redirected a cross that forced Gonzalez to go down to make his first of two saves on the night.

Ryan Hollingshead nearly gave Dallas a one-goal lead in the 25th minute. The California native moved up the field to combine with Kellyn Acosta and Mauro Diaz. The two Dallas midfielders combined to help spring a free Hollingshead in the box as he got a good look at goal before bending a shot towards the back post but Vancouver's David Ousted came up big by diving high to his left side and pushing the attempt out for a corner kick.

Gonzalez would make his second save of the night on a play from Ketuka Manneh in early moments of the second half. The Gambian hit the shot directly at Gonzalez from 25 yards away but the Dallas keeper was equal to the task.

Dallas would see their best look in the second half in the 64th minute with another play set up by Diaz as this time he combined with David Texeira. Diaz lobbed a ball over a Whitecap defender to Texeria and the Uruguayan took the ball down out of the air and put a hard shot on goal from a tough angle, but Ousted came up huge with a diving save.

The two sides will return to action next Wednesday as they complete the home-and-home series with one another in Frisco.
