Congratulations to Matt Hedges for earning a nice Workhorse of the Week win for his performance at Vancouver. Good stuff.
Hey, FC Dallas is in this thing.
With NYRB's loss to Toronto and the result from Wednesday night, FC Dallas is officially in the Supporter's Shield race. Sure, nothing is guaranteed. NYRB has the easier schedule, but if FC Dallas can keep its late season form going strong, the team remains in contention.
On Wednesday night, FC Dallas knew it needed to take care of business. Vancouver is a weak, limping team right now without much confidence, but they were desperate and came out with a nice attacking energy that threatened FCD a little early. But Mauro Diaz, after that nice long summer break, seems to be back in form. He lead this team, combined with excellent play from David Texeira and Michael Barrios, to a beautiful 2-0 win.
The real stars of this team were the defense though. Sure, Vancouver didn't exactly register a shot on goal. (BTW, why are shots off the post not considered on target?) Matt, Zach, Je-Vaughn, and Ryan had a really great game. There were a few iffy moments, but they covered for each other and kept Vancouver's offense muted.
This team is coming alive even without Fabian Castillo. That's some good stuff.
Vote below on this game's Workhorse of the Week.
This Week's Strong Recommendations
Vote for Zach. The man was in beast mode. He saved Jesse Gonzalez more than once, heading and clearing balls intended for the net. He let Jesse have it when the young keeper missed a save. Zach was all over the place. Just look at this and then vote for this guy:
Tex is coming along and had some nifty plays and passes of his own. He is emerging as a real x-factor for FCD.
But you should vote for Zach.
We might be okay without Kellyn Acosta. Great game from EZ.
But seriously, vote for Zach.
