Dallas picked up goals from Mauro Diaz and Michael Barrios during the win.
Vancouver controlled a lot of the early moments in this game but the home side ended up with the best chance 10 minutes into the match on a counter attack that was set up by Diaz. The Argentine would gather the ball in his own defensive end and push up the field with a nifty chip over the Vancouver defense to the run of Michal Barrios. The Dallas winger then laid the ball off in the penalty box to David Texeira, whose shot would rig off the post.
The Whitecaps would hit the post on their best chance of the first half as well. In the 18th minute, the Caps would have numbers around the Dallas penalty box when Octavio Rivero would lay a pass off for Ketuka Manneh. The Vancouver midfielder's shot on the outside of his foot would skim by Jesse Gonzalez but would hit the post and go back out into play where Ryan Hollignshead cleared it to safety.
Dallas made their breakthrough in the 32nd minute on a wonder passing sequence between Ryan Hollignshead and Diaz. Hollingshead got the ball wide and then played Diaz the ball back. The Argentine danced around a couple Vancouver defender before finding Barrios on the far post. The Dallas winger calmly hammered the ball into the back of the net for the game's first goal.
Dallas nearly had a chance to double their lead before half time on a penalty kick by Diaz. Barrios was brought down in the box by Tim Parker on the play to set up the chance from the free spot but Diaz's kick would be driven right at Vancouver keeper David Ousted.
Diaz got his retribution in the second half on a ridiculous dribble set-up in the 52nd minute. Diaz got the ball around the penalty box and dribbled by one defender before nutmegging a second. He would then get by one more Vancouver defender before firing a low shot at the near post that Ousted got a hand on but not enough of one as the ball trickled into the back of the net.
Dallas nearly picked up a third in stoppage time on a breakaway play by Barrios as he beat two Vancouver defenders before missing a shot on Ousted. Second half substitute Blas Perez would pick up the loose ball and hit it into the back of the net but the sideline official would call him offside on the play.
FC Dallas returns to action this weekend as they travel to Utah to play Real Salt Lake.
