Well, I was a week too early on Laurent Ciman. Great week for him; middling week for me. After an exceptionally poor start to the season, I've still got a decent chance at the top 500, and this is the week where I (and you) will clinch a superior position. By the way, I only managed to finish 10th in September amongst the BigDSoccer crowd, so I'm fading fast.
FC Dallas went on the road and outplayed Vancouver in a 0-0 draw. If not for an oh so begging chance from Blas Perez, Dallas would have grabbed a deserved win against Vancouver in BC Place. The upside of this match was that Dallas were clearly the better of the 2 teams. The downside is that Kellyn Acosta hurt his hamstring. I'm guessing we won't see Acosta until the playoffs even if he heals quickly.
FC Dallas third of 3 with Vancouver is at home tonight. VWFC has never won in Texas, and they have a slew of injuries. Toyota Stadium is where David Ousted comes to die:
That's what it feels like to get beat by an obsolete left back, Dave. I'm sorry you were made to suffer in the hot pink goalkeeper's kit by flailing for one of Dallas's all-time greats. Certainly it'll get better tonight.
Adds: Everyone, but especially David Texeira F ($7.3)- Dallas has 2 dire, crucial, have to win, scintillating matches this week for the first time all season. First, VWFC who look like the first guy going for the idol, is a must 3 points. 2nd, a match in the Wasatch against a resurgent RSL. That's going to be tough. Not because FCD doesn't have the legs for 2 games in a week with the 2nd played at altitude, but you'll miss Acosta more in this game. RSL is fighting for their lives, and Juan Martinez is the rare example of a guy adapting quickly to MLS. That said, Texeira has upped his game leading the line. He's winning headers, winning 2nd balls- his work rate has improved immensely, The testament to that is that he's scoring regularly as a result of his work, or from Michael Barrios clearing out space for him (their chemistry is outstanding), and you should bank on big points from him this week.
Drops:- Kellyn Acosta D ($6.4)- Get well quick, dude. FC Dallas needs you. The U23s need you. Hell, the full national team needs you. Acosta's had a great season as an FCD man and a U20 regular miscast as a left back. The senior team has to be calling soon. He's not going to play this week (nor is he likely to play next), but he's the edge FCD needs to make a deep run in the playoffs this year. As a midfielder, you're going to be hard pressed to find 5 Americans with a higher ceiling this guy. Say what you want about FCD, but Acosta's progression as a top shelf professional, at best, happens a lot more slowly without his hometown club as a steward.
Along with FC Dallas (invest heavily), Toronto, RBNY, Real Salt Lake, and Portland have 2 games this week. Portland has 2 road games and have failed miserably against good teams. Bank on them at your peril as they enjoy tasty road fixtures at Salt Lake and LA.
Picks to Click:
Juan Manuel Martinez F (8.7)- Burrito failed in Colorado, but he's cheap, clever, and happy to be here. He's a plus version of Fabian Espindola (and cheaper) with low ownership, so roll with the 'Burrito' as long as RSL is in the race and Javier Morales is available.
Marco Delgado M ($5.6) - Two games at home- he's a cheap every day midfielder who gets you bonus points on top of the occasional goal and/or assist. There are cheap switcheroo players to pair him with who will play twice before your sacrificial lamb's team plays on Sunday. Add him now while the transfers are free.
Michael Bradley M ($10.9) - Expensive option, but this seems like a dude who might be pissed off about how things went with his country team. MB's a monster- I could see him turning his stat line into a 'told you so' against Red Bull and Crew. Barring rest, MB's my captain this week. He's going to rain down hell on those a tier below.
I'll post at 3:30 pm CDT. Winter is coming, and it's name is Michael Bradley. Also, stash SKC players this week, because they've got 2 next week.
