No trips to the Middle East. No trips to Mexico. This year FC Dallas is kicking it fairly local for their preseason plans as they announced on Thursdays the few stops that would be included between the start of preseason and First Kick in March.
Players will arrive at Toyota Stadium in late January to begin preseason training in Frisco, Texas, before departing to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. on Feb. 1. FC Dallas will face D.C. United in the first of three potential preseason tune-ups during its time at IMG Academy. The team is scheduled to return to Dallas on Sunday, Feb. 8.
As previously reported, the club will also travel to Austin, Texas, for the ATX Pro Challenge hosted by USL PRO side Austin Aztex. In the first match of the tournament, FC Dallas will face Columbus Crew SC on Friday, Feb. 13. That match is set to begin at 5:45 p.m. CT at University of Texas at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium. Regardless of the result, FC Dallas will play again in Austin on Sunday, Feb. 15 at either 1 p.m. or 3:15 p.m.
FC Dallas returns to Toyota Soccer Center on Monday, Feb. 16. The team is scheduled to train for four more days before hosting D.C. United in a friendly at Toyota Stadium on Friday, Feb. 20.
So unlike the last couple of years, FCD will stay in town more during the preseason. Most of the training sessions (unless otherwise noted) will likely be open to the public too. Playing a slew of MLS teams...or mostly DCU and Columbus is also a pretty interesting move this time around. One I agree with as it helps set up the season better than playing some random second division side in Mexico or a Middle Eastern team.
Who is ready for this preseason to start?
