US Soccer announced the 23-player roster with FC Dallas' captain, Matt Hedges, making the final cut to potentially make an appearance against a couple of tough South American opponents. Hedges was called in after Brad Evans was sent back to Seattle after suffering tendinitis in his left knee.
Hedges will be a part of pretty mixed team with nine World Cup veterans, and many first timers. He will be one of 7 available defenders, and with the rumor coming out of camp that Klinsmann has been experimenting with a 3 man back line, the chances of Hedges getting minutes is high, especially considering the 7th defender listed is Yedlin who most likely will not feature in a three man back.
The first match will be a friendly against Chile on Wednesday January 28th at Chile. Kick is set to be at 5pm CST with Fox Sports 1 picking up the broadcast. The second and final match will be against Panama on Sunday, February 8th at the StubHub Center at 3pm CST on ESPN, UniMas and Univision DEportes.
Here's the roster:
Defenders (7): Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Steve Birnbaum (DC United), Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Jermaine Jones (NE Revolution), Perry Kitchen (DC United), Shane O'Neill (Colorado Rapids), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hospur)
Midfielders (8): Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Mix Diskerud (NYCFC), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Lee Nguyen (NE Revolution), Dillon Serna (Colorado Rapids), Brek Shea (Orlando City), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC)
Many congratulations to Matt Hedges who took this opportunity at camp well! All the FCD faithful are proud and will be watching.
