Schellas Hyndman takes college coaching gig in Arizona

The former gaffer is going back to college.

After a year away from coaching, former FC Dallas manager Schellas Hyndman has accepted a new coaching job at Grand Canyon University.

Hyndman is returning to college where he coached for 24 seasons at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He won 466 career college games with the Mustangs. He took SMU to the College Cup nearly every season that he coached there.

Hyndman left FC Dallas after the 2013 season. He coached in MLS between 2008-13, where he lead FC Dallas to a MLS Cup in 2010 and was the MLS Coach of the Year in that season.

Additionally, Hyndman has named former FCD assistant Brent Erwin as an assistant coach. Erwin has served as an assistant with Hyndman for seven years.

GCU is in its second year transitioning to NCAA Division I in sports, and the school, which also announced plans for a new 3,000-seat soccer stadium that is expected to open before the start of the fall season.
