What can Dallas expect out of the 15th pick?

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Now that it's been revealed that FC Dallas has the 15th pick in this year's MLS SuperDraft, it's time I update my previous post and see the history of the 15th pick. Surprisingly, a jump in just four picks can alter the quality of player available to you. In fact, the 15th pick actually produced an international player for USA and one for Iraq. With the 19th pick I predicted that Dallas would trade it away and depending on how the draft goes, I still think Dallas will try to package this pick for a trade. But for now, I will give you a brief history on the 15th pick going back to 2006.

2014:

Pedro

2013:

Muller

2012:

Duran

2011:

Meram

2010:

Warner

2009:

Ryan Maxwell (image not found). 0 MLS apps. Interesting note that FC Dallas took George John with the 14th pick and A.J. DeLaGarza (19th) and Graham Zusi (23rd) were also taken from this draft.

2008:

Salinas

2007:

Evans

2006:

FC Dallas actually owned this pick and selected defender Justin Moore (image not found) and he made two appearances for the Hoops. And interestingly enough, Jozy Altidore was taken with the 17th pick.

So it's still pretty hit or miss at this stage of the draft, but there is definitely potential to find a quality starter this far down. If he should still be available, I'd be intrigued if Dallas picked up Dan Metzger (Maryland) at this spot who looks to be a solid backup to Victor Ulloa and even challenge him to for a starting spot in a few years. With Dallas unloading Adam Moffat and possibly Hendry Thomas too this offseason, some midfield depth wouldn't be a bad thing.
