FC Dallas academy product steals show in US U-20s draw with Guatemala

The 'other' FCD academy product stole the show in the opening match at the CONCACAF championships.

Many expected the United States to roll through the group phase of the CONCACAF championships this week in Jamaica but their opening match with Guatemala proved to be a different story as they tied the Central American nation 1-1.

FC Dallas Homegrown midfielder Kellyn Acosta lead the US in the match but it was fellow academy product Andy Ruiz that lifted Guatemala to the draw. Ruiz scored a wonderful goal from about 20 yards out in the 89th minute of the match to level things up.

The US were seemingly cruising to a solid 1-0 result following a 58th-minute goal by Tottenham Hotspur product Cameron Carter-Vickers but they are now left chasing Group A leader Panama after their 4-0 win earlier in the day over Aruba.

Ruiz snuck in under the radar before this tournament, earning his first call-up from Guatemala. Oddly enough he isn't even a regular starter for the FCD U-18s, so in a small way his stock is certainly going to rise after this tournament if he keeps scoring goals like this one.
