The final month of the season is here for FC Dallas. As the club approaching a playoff berth it is time to take a look at the schedule to see what kind of games we have in store in October. Yesterday we took a look at what the other clubs have left on their slate as well.
Vancouver Whitecaps - away - October 4 (6pm)
What could be the playoff clinching game for FC Dallas. The two clubs met last month with FCD coming away with three points. Going to Vancouver is always a tough animal for any club, especially on that nasty turf. The Whitecaps are in the middle of a big battle for fifth place with Portland, so you know they'll be gunning for points in this one.
LA Galaxy - home - October 12 (6pm)
What could be Landon Donovan's final game in Frisco. LA is red-hot at the moment, as they've been dominating teams, mostly at home. They're a slightly different team on the road though. Still it is hard to argue with all of that talent up front and in the back.
Colorado Rapids - away - October 12 (2pm)
You have to imagine the Rapids have this one circled on their calendars in a big way. Oscar Pareja's return to the Mile High City had to be one of the final games of the year. Fortunately for FCD, by this game the Rapids will likely be eliminated from playoff contention. So really the only impact this game could have could be on if FCD is close to that all important 3rd place finish or not.
Portland Timbers - home - October 25 (7:30pm)
Last game of the year for both side. Hopefully at this point we'll know whether or not the Timbers are still in the hunt or if they are out of it. Also, we hope to know by then as to whether or not FCD will be 3rd or 4th. Portland just lost captain Will Johnson for the remainder of the season though, definitely a tough blow to that club.
First and foremost, this month is still all about getting into the playoffs starting this weekend. You win and you're in. It is as simple as that. If I am Oscar Pareja, I start treating each game like a playoff game, ramp up the intensity a bit and make sure this group is in the right mindset for the end of the month when they actually could be playing in a wildcard playoff game.
With all that being said, two home games in my mind should yield six points. FCD proved last week that they can beat some of the best teams in the league at home and I think getting by LA is very possible. I think even a win in Colorado and/or Vancouver is also possible as well.
What do you think the outcome of this month will be? Three points? Six points? Seven or eight? Or can the club pull off the perfect month and go for all 12?
